These guarantees worked when February 2022 happened: all of our exhibits returned. “There must be different guarantees now: Nobody knows what they are,” Piotrovsky said, adding that the system will be improved.
He announced that now the Hermitage plans to hold exhibitions in friendly countries, but this will be possible only after the moratorium on the export of exhibits is lifted and guarantees of return are provided. Hermitage plans to cooperate with Türkiye, Oman, Gulf countries and China.
“Everything will depend on the global situation. Everyone expects to receive something from us. Now we need to find very good guarantees that some things can be received and received,” Piotrovsky said.
In 2022, during the period of Western sanctions against Russia, he participated in foreign exhibitions in the Hermitage, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Paris, Brussels, London, Milan and Rome. As of June 2022, all exhibits (700 items) have been returned to the museum in accordance with accepted return guarantees. On March 3, 2022, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation suspended the temporary export and temporary export of museum objects from the territory of the country.
