Starting this Friday, the headquarters of the Institut Valencià d’Art Modern (IVAM) in Alcoy is hosting a new exhibition: “An indefinitely smooth joint continuity. Projections on contemporaneity in the IVAM collection”. an example that brings together 117 worksMostly with their own funds, by artists such as Bruce Nauman, Julio González, Sonia Delaunay, Marcel Duchamp, Grete Stern, Dan Graham, Richard Prince or Sanja Ivekovic.

IVAM director Nuria Enguita, Alcoy Cultural Council Member Raül Llopis, exhibition curator Diana Guijarro and Banco Sabadell Foundation’s regional manager in Alicante, Ana Ponsoda, opened the exhibition. Open to the public until 12 February 2023 on the second floor of the IVAM-CADA facilities in Alcoy.

“The common point expressing this exhibition is the concept of modernity: How can we approach this term and its complexity through the narrative constructed with selected pieces from the IVAM collection, by understanding the collection in question as a historical and social structure”, explains the institute director.

Enguita, the show”invites us to look at the works from a much broader and more complex perspective.to ask ourselves questions: What is the function of the museum in the contemporary world? What are the mechanisms by which it acts? What role do artists play?”, but above all “it is no longer a question of defining what contemporaneity is, but discovering when it is interesting”.

Curator Diana Guijarro emphasized that she was “interested in two main aspects of the exhibition: spaces we can findr and this helps to create an alternate story and how to decode a linear narrative attributed to explanatory discoursesyes, it always has a beginning and an end”.

117 works are allocated three parts. In the first, the visitor is “bred closer to the museum institution and brings to light the other workings of the museum”; in the continuation, “we examine the artist model and artistic movements throughout history, especially by analyzing the concepts of identity and genius”; and finally, Guijarro said, “we approach artistic movements that elevate other public positions from the vision of certain parts.”

The exhibition has Banco Sabadel Foundation collaborationIts representative, Ana Ponsoda, emphasized in the presentation this entity’s dedication to IVAM, “a place of reference dedicated to high-end and prestigious exhibitions that make it a reference point not only in Alcoy but in the cultural scene and the Valencian Community, but also from outside it”.

Cultural Council Member Raül Llopis stressed the importance of cooperation with IVAM, which “has taken place in seven exhibitions that have fully consolidated the IVAM Alcoi project over the course of four years”.
