The first assessment of the development of creative industries in the regions of Russia was compiled

A study conducted by ISSEK jointly with the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Human Potential has revealed a rating of the development of creative industries in Russian regions. As the publication writes “Kommersant”It covers 16 areas of creative activity, such as architecture, design, sound recording, photography, publishing, performing arts, IT and video games, cinema and animation, fashion, arts and crafts, advertising and public relations, television and radio broadcasting.

To evaluate the regions, the Russian Regional Creative Industries Index (RRCI) was developed, based on 48 indicators, combined into 12 headings and divided into four thematic sections. According to the evaluation results, the regions were divided into four groups: “leaders”, “evolutionary”, “effective” and “catching”.

Group “Leaders” Moscow, St. It included 21 regions, including St. Petersburg and the Novosibirsk region. These regions outperform others in many areas of creative industries development.

The “evolutionary” group includes 19 regions, primarily Mordovia. These regions have high potential, but their results in the development of creative industries are still below the Russian average.

The “influential” group consists of 15 regions, headed by the Voronezh region. The results of the development of creative industries in these regions are above the national average.

The largest “catching up” group includes 30 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, which lag behind the “leaders” by more than 69%. These regions are less urbanized and have fewer institutions for the development of creative industries.

The study showed uneven development of creative industries in Russian regions. The government aims to increase the creative economy’s share of GDP to 6% by 2030, but the figures are currently far from this target.
