The detention periods of director Evgenia Berkovich and playwright Svetlana Petriychuk on charges of legitimizing terrorism have been extended until January 10. In this respect TASS Reported in the Moscow Zamoskvoretsky Court.
“The court accepted the investigation request and extended the period of preventive measures in the form of detention against Berkovich and Petriychuk until January 10,” the statement said.
The basis for the arrest was the publication on YouTube of a reading of the play “Finist Yasnyi Sokol”, in which experts found signs that would justify terrorism, the ideology of the terrorist organization “Islamic State” (an organization banned in Russia) and jihadism. .
In early September, the Khamovnichesky District Court extended the detention of Berkovich and Petriychuk until November 4. The extension was justified by the impossibility of completing the investigation due to pre-determined examinations (psychological-psychiatric and psychological-linguistic automatic regulation). The court also concluded that the defendants could flee, continue their criminal activities, or obstruct the trial.
The director of the play is Berkovich and the scriptwriter is Petriychuk. The production tells the story of women who decide to marry virtually with supporters of radical Islam and go to Syria to join them. The show received the Golden Mask and was financed, among other things, by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
