HBO CEO Casey Bloys apologized to television critics for using fake accounts when responding to negative reviews of the series. His words are quoted Variation.
“I have a passion for the shows we make and the people who work on them. <…> I want everyone to love them. While working from home in 2020-2021, I found myself scrolling through Twitter unhealthily. Then I had a very stupid idea,” the company boss recalled, joking, “Obviously, six tweets in a year and a half didn’t have much impact.”
Bloys emphasized that he had not used such methods to deal with negative criticism for a long time. According to the CEO, he now writes private messages to those who criticize him from his own account.
Variety notes that Bloys’ remarks came a day after Rolling Stone published material about a lawsuit filed against him by a former HBO employee. The former employee claimed he was unfairly fired. He also admitted that he claimed he was forced to respond anonymously to bad reviews about streaming series.
