Killer Swing The careers of the duo, who have been leaders of alternative music in Spain for more than two decades, are now coming to an end. The band from Pamplona is retiring from music with a farewell tour (Low Pain Tour) and review their greatest hits alongside other artists in an album that includes new versions of Perlas (with Pucho de Vetusta Morla), Diamantes (with Santi Balmes), Babel (with Fermín Muguruza) and In back of the sea (with Amaral). This idea had already been around since the recording of Ataque celeste (2020), which was released shortly before the pandemic. Throughout all these years, their influence has crossed borders, they have gained a fan base even on the other side of the ocean, especially in Mexico, where they have performed many concerts. How’s the tour going?
It gets very intense and very exciting.
Was it the right time to quit?
I think it’s a great time to say goodbye.
I read that this idea has been floating around since ‘Ataque Celeste’ was recorded. Have you thought much about it? What accelerated your decision?
We were already tired from years of recording and touring. We stopped for a year at the worst possible moment, and then we were there to compose and record Ataque Celeste for a few people… And when we finally released the album, we were faced with the pandemic. It hurt our strength, and I think that’s what definitely precipitated this decision.
But you were in one of your best moments.
Yes, without a doubt.
You named your tour Bitter Baja. Is it painful to say goodbye?
Of course, it’s a bittersweet feeling. On the one hand, it is a very thoughtful and consensual decision, but it is also true that we do not know what will happen after the tour… We have devoted ourselves physically and spiritually to this project for twenty years, the gap will be great. But what is clear is that this is the end of the band.
Have you ever felt helpless, in the wrong place, in the direction the industry is heading?
The truth is no, although it is true that the landscape has changed a lot since we started…
Is it missing inside? music What other victories could be achieved today with a more decisive message?
Personally, I think so, but I will tell you that music is in most cases a reflection of the times we live in. Let everyone draw their own conclusions.
Six albums, a handful of hymns, countless concerts, some awards… Did you miss something? Are you happy with your career as El Columpio Asesino?
Pleased? Many things. As you said, we achieved all this, and above all we did it by being true to ourselves, demanding the maximum from ourselves, but at the same time not losing sight of who we are. In this sense, experimentalism has been a prerequisite in our music; Our motto is to surprise ourselves in order to surprise the public.
Can a bat like Toro be a plate?
Not at all. Toro has given us so much that we can only be grateful. He opened many paths for us.
What is a memory that never fades away even after years on the road?
Our greatest memory will definitely be the road: those thousands of kilometers we traveled together as a group of friends with a common passion for music. One of the most powerful experiences I can imagine.
During the Amarga Baja tour, you sell a vinyl featuring their version. songs Yours has recently come out with other singers.
It’s been a gift/whim that we’ve allowed ourselves to rely on some of the artists we’ve met over the years. We wanted to revisit the songs with different sounds.
Have mixed feelings about saying goodbye? Do you think it will be difficult for you to leave the stage?
I think it’ll be weird not thinking about the next tour. We are experiencing everything on the surface right now, very intensely.
Is the girl left isolated and single?
Offering singles from time to time has a huge advantage in that it gives you complete recording freedom.
Is anyone waiting?
There are many people left in the room who, for one reason or another, cannot pass the ‘Swing’ filter. The band’s composition process has always been very long, so yes, there are songs out there, some of which may even become hits.
Have you reached your goals?
Yes, even more than we imagined.
What does El Columpio Asesino leave behind as a legacy?
I believe that we left an honest and perfect legacy. We take great pride in everything we do.
