“There were different situations regarding music in synchronized swimming. At the last Olympics, it was suggested that one of the duets remove lyrics from a song that seemed offensive to another country. There was a case when the team took music from the movie “Schindler’s List”. It was also suggested that they change the music because it evoked certain associations,” Brusnikina noted.
He believes there should be “reasonable restrictions” on music in sport, but that these should not be linked to people’s prejudices. According to Brusnikina, tracks containing offensive lyrics or music that encourages aggressive actions should be banned. The FSP President believes that sports should, above all, bring positive emotions.
On September 16 and 17, test skates of the Russian national team were held in Moscow. 21-year-old figure skater Pyotr Gumennik performed last year’s short program, although he prepared a new program with the song Rammstein for the season. Skater coach Veronika Daineko noted that information about an undesirable performance for this group appeared a few days before the test skates, so they did not have time to organize a new short program.
