The Jewish Museum and Center for Tolerance in Moscow announced the launch of its main fall exhibition project, “The Process.” Franz Kafka and the art of the twentieth century.”
“Franz Kafka predicted the 20th century. Although all of his novels remained unfinished, including The Trial, written against the backdrop of the First World War, Kafka described desperately accurately the tests that awaited the 20th century: loneliness, absurdity, the inability to resist the impersonal sphere. For example, the museum shows the prediction of totalitarian systems in Europe, the formation of fascist ideology, the Second World War, etc. is showing.
Exhibition “Process. “Franz Kafka and 20th Century Art” consists of various routes leading to the center of the exhibition, created as a reference to the novel “The Castle”.
The first route is built along the lines of one of Kafka’s most famous stories, “The Metamorphosis”, and is decorated with the works of German expressionists Georg Grosz, Max Pechstein, Egon Schiele and others.
The second track recreates the office atmosphere in “The Trial”; It presents works by conceptualists Joseph Kosuth, Ilya Kabakov, Viktor Pivovarov, Dmitry Prigov and other artists.
They also want to show an unusual Kafka at the exhibition – not a pathetic loser, but a man with humor and an unusual fate.
The project includes more than 100 works from the collections of the State Hermitage and the State Museum of Fine Arts. LIKE. Pushkin, State Russian Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery, Museum of Architecture. HUNTING. Schuseva et al.
The exhibition will run from October 11, 2023 to January 14, 2024.
