He stated that his mother was queuing at the airline ticket counter and trying to find out if there were discounts for artists. Volochkova’s mother explained the predicament to the ticket office employee, and the man standing behind them quietly bought them tickets to Kiev.
“I remember my mother lining up at the airline ticket counter and asking the employees if there were discounts for artists. In tears, she said that her daughter was a ballerina and that she was going to a competition and she had to win. The competition took place in Kiev,” Volochkova said.
After a grand gesture from a stranger, the dancer finally reached Kiev and won the gold medal in the competition.
