Former Smash Mouth lead singer Stephen Harwell has died at the age of 56. This has been reported Rolling stone mentions group manager Robert Hayes.
Harwell died at his home in Boise, Idaho, with his family and friends.
On September 3, it was learned that Harwell’s liver had failed. The artist was in the final stage of liver failure. After staying in the hospital, the musician was discharged and sent home so that his family and friends could say goodbye to him. Doctors estimated that the singer had about a week to live.
Ten years ago, Harwell was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, which leads to heart failure, and Wernicke’s encephalopathy, which affects memory and speech.
Harwell is best known for the soundtracks to the animated movie Shrek, “All Star” and “I’m a Believer”.
Stephen Harwell left Smash Mouth at the 2021 New York show, where he was rude to attendees and forgot lyrics due to another illness. Zach Good took his place in the group.
