Monica Naranjo: “Liberty is not being afraid”

This voice began to whisper to him a new way to walk, the electronic rock (not the symphonic) path he took in the past two years ago, thus beginning to write his first LP since ‘Tarántula’ (2008). ).

“I just had nothing to say until now. Why make an LP when you have nothing to share?“, apologizing to Naranjo (Figueres, Girona, 1974), who has, in the meantime, released compilations and reinterpretations of his repertoire, such as “4.0” (2014), a rock opera called “Lubna” (2016) and, more recently, albums by length or EP like the two volumes of ‘Mes Excentricités’.

First collaboration with Bunbury

But if there’s one thing that surprises the early developments of his eighth studio album, it’s the two collaborations, because the first is not covered much on their album, and the second is about the “two ruthless” ones. apparently they were not in their musical coordinates.

“(Enrique Bunbury and I’ve been waiting for a long time to do something togetherbut either he was too busy or it was me or we couldn’t find the song”, when asked about the duo with the former leader of Héroes del Silencio, whom he met over 20 years ago through the legendary British producer, Phil Manzanera.

He claims to have “always” had a great fascination with rock music, this strange combination of talents. “Actually, I’m a very rocker. He’s always admired what I do, that is, doing what I want. This rebellion unites us both,” he insists.

“I’m inside,” Bunbury replied after hearing the song ‘Ey’, which finally brought them together on a recording, and where, by chance, actor and musician Asier Etxeandía’s second collaboration with the Mastodon project emerged.

The Catalan artist explains that everything started from a mistake. When she called him to play the guard in the video clip, Basque thought he was asking her to work together on new music. “I had no idea Mastodon might want to do anything with me”apologizes.

It turned out that there was a song on his album called ‘Powder Empty’, which he first wrote as a duet. “But since we already have Enrique and this song is doing well on its own, we left it that way,” he adds. “And it was so much better than I did alone,” he emphasizes, after recording his new album with a revolutionary technique known as 8D sound (also known as holophonic or 360º sound), which allows to create a “spatialization” as if. the music will envelop the listener with the right actors.
