We are doing the last concerts of the album. beats/minuteWe have a versatile repertoire, coming out in 2021. We will bring a lot of improvisation, communication and interaction between band members and of course the public to the Canary Islands. We try to be as free as possible on stage.
What do you think about this festival, did you know?
Jazz&Más Festival is one of the reference festivals in Spain. If you add a tropical landscape as beautiful as the Islands, it just seems like a perfect trip to me.
Do you know the poster for this new edition? Would you like to go on stage with any guest?
I love Alfredo Rodríguez and we have already met at several festivals in Europe. Their concerts are always a pleasure. I also have great admiration for Carmen Souza. And Manu Katché is, of course, a world-class percussion institution. The truth is I would love to share the stage with him one day, but I don’t think it will happen. [risas].
After all these years of career, do you continue to take to the stage to have fun with no other excuses?
Now more than ever. Being with my daughter or being on stage are two places where I feel fulfilled. No worries, pressure from the industry, health issues, nothing. We are 100% there.

No, every country has its own way of understanding my music. For example, Dutch people have a lot of humor that influences music. I think singing in Portuguese will always have a special meaning for me because it’s like being at home. When I sing in Portuguese, I bring everything I’ve experienced, memories, loves and suffering.
He composes some of your songs and sings others that he composed for you. Do you feel more comfortable in either of these two directions?
No, the truth is I love to sing. It doesn’t matter if I write it or if I write Elton John. I got it when I wrote the last record. I thought it would make me feel more special saying what I wrote, but in the end, it’s the art of singing that fascinates me.
He has already made some progress in his next work, Door bell. How would you describe this new album?
This is a shiny disc. I feel like bringing clarity. Maybe more folk rhythm and less jazz. In short, it will be a tropical record.
