Jack Lee, leader of The Nerves, has died at the age of 72. It has been reported deadline.
Lee’s death occurred on May 26 in Santa Monica (California), but this has only now been learned. The musician struggled with colon cancer for a long time.
Lee was one of three songwriters for The Nerves. The group began their creative career in San Francisco, then moved to Los Angeles in 1977, where the power pop genre was born. Bassist Peter Case and drummer Paul Collins joined Lee, who also served as the band’s guitarist.
The band had only one self-titled EP released in 1976. After The Nerves disbanded, Lee made two solo recordings. The musician also wrote compositions for Paul Young and Suzi Quatro. The song “Hanging on the Telephone”, which the artist recorded with Blondie, became one of the most famous songs in Lee’s career.
The Nerves reunion in 2012 took place without Lee. In 2007 he formed the new band Jack Lee Inferno.
