Singer Zemfira (known in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent) commented on the rumors about obtaining French citizenship on her Telegram channel.
Zemfira stated that she is a citizen of the Russian Federation and “has not and will not have any other citizenships”. She noted that although she has not lived in Russia for a year, she regularly pays taxes. She added that she loves her and her country, but does not support the authorities.
Zemfira also applied to the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation. “I request the Ministry of Justice to prove for me foreign funds that I have never had in my life,” the singer said.
Rumors that Zemfira will receive a second citizenship seen May 31st. Telegram channel Shot reported that the singer is allegedly a citizen of France.
The Ministry of Justice included Zemfira on the foreign agents register in February 2023. The official website of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation stated that the singer “openly supported Ukraine by carrying out concert activities in hostile countries with calls against a special military operation”, and also “received support from foreign sources”. On May 10, 2023, Zemfira filed a lawsuit with the Russian Ministry of Justice to challenge the status of a foreign agent. The court will consider Zemfira’s request to be removed from the foreign agent list on June 14.
