Andy Rourke, bassist of The Smiths, has died at the age of 60. It has been reported Guard.

It is with deep sadness that we announce that Andy Rourke passed away after a long illness from pancreatic cancer. Those who knew him will remember Andy as a kind and wonderful soul, and music lovers as an extremely talented musician. “We ask for privacy from our fans at this sad time,” The Smiths said in a statement.

Rourke played in the main cast of The Smiths. Along with the group, he released hits such as “This Charming Man” and “There Is a Light”, as well as solo songs for lead singer Morrissey after the group disbanded.

The musician also performed with two famous bassists in the Freebass group, Peter Hook from New Order and Money from Stone Roses. Rourke has recorded with Sinead O’Connor, The Pretenders, Ian Brown and Cranberries vocalist Dolores O’Riordan.
