Martin Scorsese urged Taxi Driver writer Paul Schroeder not to end his career because of his wife’s serious illness, IndieWire reports.
The legendary director backed his colleague after it was learned that Schroeder was planning to end his film career. The producer made this decision after realizing he couldn’t combine work and care for his wife, actress Mary Beth Hurt, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
“You should try to find some balance and not let his illness keep you from making movies,” said Scorsese, who worked with Schroeder at Taxi Driver.
Now Schroeder is simultaneously busy with two projects whose details have not yet been disclosed. It is known that he offered to shoot the script of the first film to director Antoine Fuqua.
The second project, the script of which was written by Schroeder, attracted the attention of Hollywood stars such as Elizabeth Olsen and Richard Gere, who expressed their desire to take part in the film.
