According to Gergiev, the main reason for this is the coronavirus pandemic. “Theatres like Mariinsky suffered losses of up to 70% due to unsold tickets and remained so for quite some time. The damage done to the Mariinsky Theater in three years is about 12 billion rubles,” he calculated.
