Russian online cinemas and streaming services see a surge in viewers’ interest in Indian movies, reports “Kommersant”.

Analysts point to an average 10% to 12% increase in viewing of Indian movies last year. Experts attribute the increasing interest of the domestic audience to Indian cinema with the withdrawal of Hollywood films from Russia.

In this regard, there is an expansion in the libraries of the largest Russian online cinemas, which fill their catalogs with films from India.

Kinopoisk has 17 Indian movies and series, including the blockbuster Brahmastra, Part 1: Shiva, while the Wink platform has 37 movies and 70 Indian TV shows.

At the same time, it is too early to talk about the explosion of Indian cinema in Russia. “There’s an increase in interest in individual titles, but that’s not a decisive trend, it’s not that all libraries suddenly have to be Indian, Korean, or Turkish,” says Dmitry Kolesov, head of new technologies at J’son and Partners Consulting. .
