People’s Poet of Dagestan Magomed Akhmedov died at the age of 67. This was explained by his son Murad Akhmedov in an interview. TASS.

The cause of death was a long illness. The poet spent the last days of his life in a Moscow hospital. Akhmedov’s body will be buried in his hometown of Gonoda village in the Gunib region.

In 1979, Akhmedov began his career as an editor at the Dagestan Book Publishing House. He later became the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Pravednaya Mysl. In 2004, he was elected as the Chairman of the Board of the Writers Union of Dagestan.

In 2005, Akhmedov was awarded the title of “People’s Poet of Dagestan”. He is also the recipient of the Russian Grand Prize for Literature and the Delvig Literary Prize.
