The tour started at the Wizink Center. How did it go?

Definitely an impressive and important challenge because the usual thing is to do and finish your tour at the Wizink Center and we started the roofed house and started the tour there. It was a very important concert with its repertoire, lighting, decor and all of these combined. Arriving on time made us uneasy for months, but when it was finished we were very pleased with what we experienced there.

He played there before, during and after the pandemic. Really?

Yes, on February 8, 2020, a month before the start of the pandemic, I played with people standing, it’s normal. Seven months later, when some organizers dared to hold a concert with all the restrictions, we held another concert with 1,200 other people; I gave an acoustic concert and recorded a live album. Source. And now it’s revenge (laughs), we go back to what we had. We received it with great enthusiasm. We all want to live, make up for lost time, enjoy and make the most of things that were suddenly taken from us and that we never thought would be taken from us.

Animal This is her seventh studio album and her first release with her own label, Señorita Rock and Roll. Why is that? Why?

This is another resolution of the pandemic: to leave the multinational and start my own brand, because after more than 20 years in business, I believed I was ready to take these risks and get a dose of freedom. What you gain from owning your company and launch. And in the end one gets it and it seems to give more pride.

Did you compose more freely?

In no case did I have any shortcomings. It is true that there is much more research to be done on decision making in a multinational company mechanism, and it is much more direct. Feeling free, for example, means composing a song today, wanting to release it in fifteen days, and being able to do it.

He says this album is the result of instinct.

You don’t realize it as you write, but when you take the record and put the songs together and look at what they have in common, you’ll find that these are much more instinctive songs: upbeat songs are much more upbeat and upbeat. The scary ones have knives in them. We also recorded this, an album with many first shots, giving importance to emotion rather than logic, not looking for the perfect sound, but seeing what comes out and what is delivered to you.

Yes (laughs), I wrote this for an international artist’s repertoire, and in the end I, who wrote many songs for others and never felt committed, in which case I said, “I’m so sorry but I. I’m going to keep this song”. I think this is the wild card we need to start the project. He was the little star who enlightened us and opened many doors to a new audience that listened to us. It was the first one we took out and everyone empathized with the same feeling, wanting to live, get out, live life and grab it. I think it was necessary to send a message of optimism and it came just in time.

Did the artist who directed the song listen to it?

I don’t know. His manager heard it and said they were hiding it, but I don’t know anymore… I’ve never felt this way about a song and told myself it was a sign.

You don’t like to label yourself, but what would you say if an alien listened to your music?

I would tell him that they are songs that talk about my life, that in the end everyone is the life of a normal and ordinary person traveling in this world and not always very happy or very sad, we change feelings. and emotions. First of all, I try to make any accompanying songs and so there are more introverted songs and others that are more vital. I try to explain myself first so people can connect with him.

In what way?

I do not care. It’s like a suit to me, one day you wear sequins and another day you go to the pool in a swimsuit. What I do is work for hours, songs do not come to my mind all of a sudden. I try to have a routine and understand this trade as a craftsman’s work. Sometimes a song is born from a melody, others from a script, sometimes at the same time. There are thousands of ways a song should be. But it’s often disappointing, ideas that don’t come up, you don’t like the next day, so we record every few years, or we’d release a new one every two weeks.

Do you listen to the music as fast as yours or are you still wasting your time listening to the whole record?

I realize that we have less and less time to enjoy. There is something about being a musician about exercise – listening to the news, being aware of it from a more critical point of view – and I have to admit that now some records catch my attention and I listen to them for a long time. trips But the records I listen to from start to finish are the same ones I listened to ten or fifteen years ago, the songs that affected me and changed my life are from those records, like a time machine where you remember who you are. And what records are these?

I can listen to Extremoduro, Concha Buika, Los Panchos, Nirvana… Style never restricted me, on the contrary, music came to me as I grew up. Many national rock songs, many author songs: first recordings of Pedro Guerra or Javier Álvarez. These are albums that I go back to and remember myself, how excited you were and goosebumps.

It makes me feel a little old (laughs) and I’m also proud. There are people who say they listened to me as a kid and are now 27 years old. Do you have a good audience in Alicante?

Incredible. We are neighbors. I’ve been playing in Alicante since I went with my friend. guitarist and an association of singer-songwriters. It’s great to go to places we grew up together.

It’s a big step up from playing in bars to Wizink Center. What changed?

I think less Time has passed, more opening hours, bars that are a little bigger then and things I never imagined. I had no ambition to give big concerts. It is the perseverance and evolution of a craftsman, a man who is lucky to have people who sing and listen to them for a long time, and more and more. For me this is something miraculous.
