American actor Walker Scobell has announced that the series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” based on the novels by Rick Jordan, will be released on Disney+ within a year – either in late 2023 or early 2024. He talked about this in an interview with GoErie.
Prior to that, writer Rick Jordan talked about the same timeline, but stressed that he was only guessing and was not aware of Disney’s specific plans.
The Percy Jackson and the Olympians fantasy cycle began in 2005 with the novel Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Subsequently, the book has four sequels, the last of which – “Percy Jackson and the Last Prophecy” – came out in 2009. The hero of the epic is the young demigod Percy, the son of Poseidon and an ordinary woman, Sally Jackson.
In 2010, the movie “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief”, directed by Chris Columbus and based on the first book, was released. Three years later the second movie “Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters” was released, but the franchise never continued after that. Percy Jackson’s role in both films was played by actor Logan Lerman.
With the takeover of 21st Century Fox in 2019, the rights of the series were transferred to Disney Corporation, and Disney Corporation decided to make a series based on it.
Previously Rick Riordan has announced his first Percy Jackson book in 14 years.
