In Perm, scientists helped create the game Solaris, based on the novel by Polish futurist and writer Stanislav Lem. According to Ura.ru, Alexander Pronkin’s play is a joint project of NTI “Photonics” Perm Competence Center, Polytechnic University, a research and production instrument-making company and academic Theater-Theatre.
The novel takes place on the planet Solaris, which is completely covered by oceans. In the story, psychologist Chris Kelvin flies to a space station over a sensitive ocean. There will be no stage on the stage, events will be shown with the help of Photonics technologies: lasers, projectors, smoke machines. “With the help of lasers and projectors, we were able to change the space. “To make it completely infinite or cyclical, small or large,” said Maria Levina, the stage designer of the theatre.
According to Pronkin, art and science should merge right now. “I was intrigued that the Perm Theater-theatre was embarking on such a cool way of cooperation. “The scientists were with us during the creation of the performance, but they did not interfere with the process, but complemented it with their own ideas.”
The Perm Competence Center of NTI “Photonics” has long been considering how to show the possibilities of technology to the layman. According to Nikolai Kosvintsev, director of photonics, the center has long wanted to convey the benefits of photonics technology to the public. “In our opinion, the work “Solaris” 100% falls into this scientific topic, because the genre of this novel is called “scientific and technological”. This approach has also helped us to reveal our understanding of this technology, to understand its aesthetic appeal,” said Kosvintsev.
The play “Solaris” will be on the Theater-Theater stage for three years. Scientists are also working with the theater on the production of Alice in Wonderland.
