The actor reveals that he’s been in rehab fifteen times over the years, hitting rock bottom four years ago when he was in a coma for two weeks due to excessive alcohol and opium consumption, Contraluz announced on Thursday.
Perry was already an alcoholic when he started shooting ‘Friends’ at the age of 24. “I could handle it, more or less. But at 34, he was already in big trouble.”, he says in the book.
He says for ten years his co-stars were understanding and patient with him. “They were like penguins. When a penguin is sick, other penguins will turn it around and help it straighten up, circling it around until it can walk on its own. That’s what the ‘Friends’ cast did for me.”
His worst moment came in one of the last seasons, when the actor took 55 Vicodin pills a day and weighed 58 kilograms. “I didn’t know how to stop. I couldn’t stop because disease and addiction are progressive. That’s why it got worse as he got older,” she says.
In an interview with People magazine, Perry assures that when she felt safe from falling back on the “dark side” she wanted to share what she experienced, and when she miraculously survived, when she was admitted to the hospital, doctors told her she had a 2% chance of survival.
