In March of this year, Russian shoppers purchased three times as many skateboards on Ozon as in March 2022. The average order value for these items dropped to 1,700 rubles, a decline of about 50 percent from the previous year. This information was shared with SocialBites by Ozon’s press team.

The company’s statement attributed the lower average check to a broader product assortment and a larger seller base on the platform, which tends to push prices downward while expanding consumer choice.

Among all personal mobility devices—bicycles, electric scooters, skateboards, electric skateboards, gyro scooters, Segways, unicycles, and other similar products—the skateboard category demonstrated the strongest growth in sales over the period. Overall, these personal mobility items saw sales volumes rise by roughly 1.5 to 2 times compared with the previous year.

Prices for mobility devices likewise softened over the year. The average price for mechanical scooters declined by about 8 percent to 14,000 rubles, while the cost of electric models fell from around 4,000 to 24,000 rubles. Some categories, however, experienced price increases. Recreational bicycles, for instance, rose on average by 7 percent, reaching about 40,000 rubles, and single wheels became more expensive by about 6 percent, with an average price around 74,500 rubles.

March 2023 also brought updates to traffic regulations affecting personal mobility devices. Riding electric scooters and hoverboards now requires protective gear such as helmets. Ozon noted that demand for helmets, knee pads, and other protective equipment surged significantly, with the average expenditure on protective gear falling to roughly 1,000 rubles as buyers gravitated toward essential safety items. Consumers most frequently chose helmets and complete bike kits for family use, including orthopedic accessories for children.
