In Russia, production roles are currently driving high-demand vacancies on the state portal of the Federal Labor and Employment Service, known as “Business in Russia.” This trend was highlighted by Izvestia, referencing an analytical note issued by the Ministry of Labour.

The portal lists about 1,900 job openings in the industrial and manufacturing sectors that exceed 200 thousand rubles per month, a level that is roughly ten times higher than the typical pay for IT roles in the same portal.

According to the ministry’s memo, demand for labor in industrial trades is rising as the economy shifts toward import substitution. The roles most frequently sought within the manufacturing segment include technicians and mechanics for industrial and agricultural equipment, molders, welders, rollers, machine operators, and evaluators of product quality.

Officials from the Ministry of Labour note that many industrial employers offer a comprehensive social package. This frequently encompasses housing assistance and relocation support, among other benefits. By comparison, recent data show far fewer openings in the service sector, construction, and IT—roughly 49, 60, and two positions respectively on the same platform.

Separately, a recent survey conducted by the SuperJob job search service reported that residents of St. Petersburg identified several roles as the most monotonous. These occupations included security personnel, accountants, sales representatives, call center operators, and system administrators, highlighting the varying perceptions of daily tasks across industries.
