In Russia, a notable share of the population envisions higher pay for doctors, with half of surveyed citizens believing a monthly doctors’ salary should be at least 100,000 rubles. This conclusion comes from a nationwide survey carried out by hh.ru, with results referenced by socialbites.ca. The study gathered responses from 2,376 job seekers across Russia during the May to June 2022 period, offering a snapshot of public opinion on healthcare remuneration in that timeframe.

When the numbers are broken down, 50 percent of respondents expressed that a doctor’s earnings ought to exceed 100,000 rubles per month. An additional 36 percent indicated that doctors should earn between 61,000 and 100,000 rubles monthly. A smaller but still notable group of 9 percent considered wages in the 30,000 to 60,000 ruble range acceptable for doctors. These figures reflect a broad expectation of higher compensation among medical professionals, contrasted with the current pay landscape in the country.

Views on nurses’ salaries show a similar desire for higher pay, though with a slightly different distribution. Among the respondents, 43 percent believed that nurses should receive a monthly salary in the 30,000 to 60,000 ruble range. A slightly smaller segment, 41 percent, argued for earnings between 61,000 and 100,000 rubles. Only 7 percent felt that nurses should be paid more than 100,000 rubles each month. This spread reveals a general expectation that nursing salaries should rise from their present levels to better reflect the responsibilities and demands of the role.

Looking at the broader salary picture, hh.ru reported that at the start of 2022, the average monthly pay for doctors in Russia was about 67,600 rubles, while nurses earned roughly 40,900 rubles. These figures provide a baseline for understanding how public opinion on compensation compares with actual average earnings at that point in time.

Official statistics from Rosstat, published in June, show a longer-term trend: over the last four years, the average salary for doctors has climbed to around 92,000 rubles per month. That growth represents roughly a 20 percent increase over the four-year period, signaling a gradual improvement in pay for medical professionals, even as public sentiment continues to call for further increases. This juxtaposition between public expectations and official averages highlights the ongoing discussion about fair and sustainable compensation within Russia’s healthcare system.
