Russia and China deepen energy cooperation amid shared strategic goals
Relations between Russia and China continue to strengthen under a framework of a comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction. This direction was outlined in a message from President Vladimir Putin, read aloud by Rosneft President Igor Sechin during the VI Russia-China Energy Business Forum (RCEBF).
Putin highlighted that Russia’s energy deliveries to China are hitting record levels. Experts from both nations are collaborating to advance technologies for extracting, processing, and transporting raw materials, while also boosting environmental safety. The emphasis remains on creating reliable, sustainable energy ties that support industrial growth across both economies.
The Russian president underscored the crucial role of the Russia-China Energy Business Forum in fostering ongoing cooperation between the two states. It serves as a central platform for aligning goals and accelerating joint projects in the energy sector.
Messages of goodwill from Chinese leadership were conveyed through Ding Xuexiang, deputy premier of the State Council of China. The Chinese side conveyed the message that bilateral energy cooperation has matured into a stable, enduring partnership that delivers tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.
From Xi Jinping, the message reaffirmed a readiness to advance mutually beneficial energy collaboration at a new historical juncture. It stressed ensuring the stability and resilience of energy production and supply chains and supporting a transition toward greener, healthier development for both nations and their partners in the broader energy sector.
Igor Sechin noted that the forum participants, including companies involved in the Russia-China Energy Forum (RKEF), account for a significant portion of bilateral trade. He emphasized that energy remains a leading export category for Russia to China, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration and industrial integration.
Sechin also recalled that the two countries have a long-standing relationship, with energy trade forming a major component of bilateral economic ties. He highlighted the enduring momentum in 2023, pointing to strong growth in trade and the broadening scope of cooperation across sectors aligned with energy development and infrastructure.
It was mentioned that the Russia-China Energy Business Forum has grown into a key annual event since its inception in 2018, reflecting a shared commitment to expanding cooperation across energy, technology, and trade corridors. The dialogue continues to adapt to changing market conditions and the evolving needs of both economies.
Overall, the discussions at the forum reinforced a common vision: to push forward energy projects that support stable production, secure supply chains, and sustainable growth. The tone from both sides suggested a strategic intent to deepen integration, foster green initiatives, and advance practical outcomes for industry, government, and the public in both Russia and China.
