Rising Demand for Air Conditioners Surges Amid Heat Across Regions

In the April–May period, air conditioner sales saw a notable rise, growing by more than one and a half times compared with the previous period. This trend was highlighted by DEA News, referencing findings from the OFD Platform experts. The data suggests that consumer behavior shifted toward cooling solutions as temperatures climbed, with air conditioner purchases contributing a substantial share to the household electronics market.

The study indicates that the average purchase value for air conditioners during this interval stood at 17,245 rubles, which marks a 10 percent decrease from the prior year. Despite the lower average price, the total number of purchases increased by about 67 percent, signaling broader adoption across households. Meanwhile, demand for fans also rose, with the average check reaching 2,945 rubles, roughly 9 percent higher than the previous year, reflecting complementary cooling options alongside air conditioning.

Experts note that the surge in air conditioner purchases extends beyond seasonal influence, with a documented 14 percent year-over-year increase in overall air conditioner sales. This pattern aligns with record heat and dry, fire-hazardous conditions observed in several regions, driving consumers to seek reliable relief from high temperatures.

Earlier meteorological agencies reported that several areas could experience abnormally hot conditions in the coming days, with forecasts calling for temperatures reaching up to 36°C in many parts. The exception to this trend was the Irkutsk region, where forecasts indicated comparatively milder conditions. These temperature projections help explain the continued strength in demand for cooling appliances, as households and businesses prepare to manage extreme heat and maintain comfortable indoor environments.

Overall, the current statistics reflect a broader shift toward enhanced climate comfort for consumers, with air conditioners playing a central role in safeguarding indoor environments during periods of intense heat. Market analyses emphasize the importance of reliable cooling technologies, energy efficiency considerations, and strategic procurement by retailers to meet evolving consumer needs in regions experiencing elevated temperatures and hot spells.
