Analysts project that the share of brands originating from the Russian Federation and the CIS in Russia’s electronics market will climb to about one third by the end of 2023, according to Alexey Melnikov, managing partner at Fplus IT holding. The remarks were cited by Vedomosti, highlighting a shift in the market composition toward domestic and regional brands alongside private-label products operated by major retailers.
In the previous year, Russian consumers purchased a total of 332 million electronic devices. Among these, roughly 106.2 million units carried brands from Russia and the CIS, including private-label offerings from large retail networks. This indicates a notable penetration of regional manufacturing and brand names within the consumer electronics ecosystem.
For the first half of 2024, the share of domestically branded and CIS-origin devices hovered around 18 percent in the domestic market. Even with that percentage, the absolute tally of such devices rose by about 70 percent compared with the same period in the prior year, signaling expanding availability and consumer demand for locally sourced electronics.
Melnikov also commented on a record increase in smartphone imports from India. During the first four months, the import value reached 85.2 million dollars, representing a fourteenfold rise versus the corresponding period in 2023. This trend underscores how global sourcing dynamics are reshaping Russia’s device procurement patterns, with India playing a growing role in meeting demand for mobile technology.

Experts emphasize strengthening consumer awareness and banking safeguards to mitigate these security risks and protect personal financial information in everyday digital transactions.
