For the Polish energy giant Orlen, securing Russian crude from Tatneft and Transneft looks increasingly uncertain as oil shipments have been halted since late February. This assessment comes from Maxim Bashkatov, the head of the Center for Strategic Studies and the director of Legal Development, speaking to RIA News.

On March 6, Daniel Obaitek, the chief executive of Orlen, spoke on a Polish radio program about seeking monetary compensation from Russia after the suspension of oil supplies. He did not specify the exact amount of losses or the claims planned against Tatneft and Transneft.

According to Bashkatov, the likelihood of Orlen meeting the demand of Tatneft and Transneft remains doubtful at this time.

Earlier, on February 28, Obaitek had said that after a visit by the U.S. president to Poland, Russian oil flows had stopped. He noted that Warsaw would not be left exposed, as the country has alternative raw material routes from the North Sea, West Africa, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Persian Gulf.
