The National Payment Card System, known as NSPK, and Sber are moving toward a single biometric payment service. The NSPK press service, citing Maxim Krukelis, director of the operations and technology department, reported this via TASS.

The project is planned to be completed in the second half of 2025, and the release notes that Sber and NSPK have begun collaboration to merge their services.

Sber will integrate with NSPK’s biometric purchasing system as both the acquiring and issuing bank, a move Krukelis described as a crucial step in advancing biometric payments.

Dmitry Malykh, senior vice president of Sberbank and head of the transaction banking block, told reporters that a roadmap for the joint project has already been prepared.

He said that once the unified service goes live, customers will be able to pay with biometrics, including at other financial institutions. To enable this, users will activate biometric payments by selecting the appropriate account in their bank’s mobile app.

Additionally, Malykh did not rule out a new system similar to a QR code. The concept involves a platform that would offer various banking options after pressing the Pay with a smile button.

Earlier analysts studied how many Russians are ready to pay for purchases using biometrics.
