Moldova conducted a sequence of electricity test deliveries to Ukraine, following earlier purchases from European suppliers. The information comes from a report by the agency TASS, which cited a statement from Energocom, Moldova’s state energy company.

Energocom reported that a test sale of 1 MWh of electricity to Ukraine was completed. The company explained that the electricity, previously bought within the European Union, was routed through Moldova to Ukrainian buyers. This capability emerged after Moldova joined the European auction platform JAO, enabling cross‑border trade through the regional energy market. (Source: TASS via Energocom report)

Currently, Moldova depends on Moldavskaya GRES as its primary electricity supplier. The plant, owned by Inter RAO, delivers roughly 244,000 MWh of power to Moldova at a price around $73 per MWh. This level of supply accounts for about 88 percent of the country’s total electricity imports. The remaining volumes are sourced from neighboring Romania, ensuring diversification of Moldova’s energy imports.

There is ongoing discussion about Moldova’s gas imports as well. The former Moldovan government indicated interest from Gazprom in adjusting terms for natural gas deliveries. Viktor Parlikov, who led Moldova’s Ministry of Energy at the time, noted that the cost of gas supplied from Russia often tracks the market price Moldova pays to European suppliers, reflecting global pricing dynamics and the country’s effort to secure competitive energy terms.
