The chairman of the National Lottery, Mikhail Volkov, was appointed as chief executive officer of the Russian Post, taking over from Maksim Akimov in the same role. This development was reported by TASS, citing the press service of the Russian Post.
According to the company’s board of directors, the decision to elevate Volkov to CEO was a formal act approved after careful consideration of leadership options and organizational needs. The announcement underscored that Volkov brings broad leadership experience from large Russian corporations, with particular strengths in financial governance and in coordinating operations across diverse Russian regions.
The press service stressed that under the leadership of Maksim Akimov, the Russian Post has continued to function through the challenges posed by covid restrictions, maintaining essential postal links with numerous countries around the world and adapting services to evolving public health requirements.
In December 2022, the Russian government directed the Board of Directors of Russian Post to appoint Volkov as CEO, signaling confidence in his track record and strategic vision for sustaining postal operations amid a changing economic and regulatory landscape.
Media reports indicate that Akimov left the post for personal reasons, including a wish to pursue other life commitments and to enjoy more personal time away from the responsibilities that come with leading a state-owned enterprise. The transition marks a shift in executive leadership as the company continues to navigate post-pandemic operational realities and the demands of a growing global communications network.
