The government of Bosnia and Herzegovina is moving toward starting negotiations on a gas pipeline project that would carry Russian gas into the country. This development emerged in remarks given to DEA News by Dusko Perovic, the head of the Republika Srpska representation in Russia. (DEA News)

Perovic noted that the Council of Ministers in BiH approved launching the negotiation process. He added that, whereas talks previously occurred at the Russia–Bosnia and Herzegovina intergovernmental commission level, future discussions will shift to coordinating with Serbia. This change reflects BiH’s plan to connect its gas transit into Serbia’s pipeline system. (DEA News)

Following the government’s approval, Perovic said the matter will be taken to the BiH Presidency for discussion. He indicated that two members of the Presidency Council might oppose the move, meaning the issue would then proceed to the Parliamentary Assembly for further debate. (DEA News)

Additionally, Perovic announced plans to establish a working group tasked with addressing practical questions about constructing the pipeline. (DEA News)

A separate statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry warned that pushing Bosnia and Herzegovina toward NATO membership could introduce new risks in the Balkans. (DEA News)
