Aleksey Yasinsky, who heads strategic communications for the operating organization at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), stated on a television broadcast that the facility does not possess heavy weapons and does not host armed forces. The remarks were delivered during a segment on the Russia 24 channel.
He emphasized that, at present, no additional Russian armed units are on the ZNPP site. He also asserted that heavy weapons or explosives will not be present on the premises, reiterating a clear stance against arming the plant’s grounds.
Yasinsky added that the operating organization behind the ZNPP is responsible for nuclear security, and as such, the presence of heavy weaponry at the site would be unacceptable and contrary to safety standards.
Previously, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) noted that the situation around the ZNPP area has become increasingly unpredictable and potentially dangerous, underscoring concerns about safety and security for workers and nearby communities. This assessment highlights the importance of verified information and international oversight in the region.
In early May, regional officials reported that ZNPP unit operations had been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure. The aim was to avoid the risk of provocations as anniversaries or commemorations related to Victory Day approached, a period often watched closely by various parties in the conflict. The suspension was framed as a temporary safety step while the situation was monitored and assessed by authorities and international observers, including experts from the IAEA.
