Half of the EU’s (EU) zinc and aluminum industries closed last week. About Wrote Ursula von der Leyen, referring to a letter from the Brussels portal EURActiv, metallurgical enterprises association Euromeataux, to the president of the European Commission (EC).
It was noted that the letter was signed by 40 heads of Europe’s largest industrial companies. Euromeataux stressed that it is urgent to reduce energy prices in the EU to avoid a complete shutdown of the steel industry.
“About 50% of the EU’s aluminum and zinc production capacity has already had to be shut down due to the energy crisis. Last week, a significant number of industrial enterprises in Europe stopped or reduced their production, and many will do the same this week.
Concerns were also raised about a possible business shutdown in companies producing cement, steel, chemicals and fertilizers, according to EURActiv.
