The opening date of the Rail Baltica railway route, which was built to protect the Baltic countries from Russia, was postponed to 2030 due to inflation. writes Bloomberg agency.
As the publication explains, since the project started in 2010, projected expenses have risen sharply from €5.8 billion to €15.3 billion. Moreover, most of the expenses cannot be covered by funds. As of October, the budget deficit related to the construction of this road reached 10 billion Euros.
Bloomberg writes that the delay in the opening of the project is due to inflation, whose growth rate in the Baltic countries exceeds 20 percent. Even if more funding is received, some parts of Rail Baltica will not be implemented exactly as planned, analysts predict.
Czech publication Lidovky in June wroteThat Poland and the Baltic states want to distance themselves from Russia with an “iron curtain” and build an “impenetrable barrier” on the border of Russia and Belarus. In the broadcast, it was stated that a new Iron Curtain was created in Europe 78 years after British Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s Fulton speech.
