ARD: Germany faces a wave of protests over rise in inflation and rising fuel prices

Germany is facing protests this fall and winter due to rising energy and core commodity prices. BACK.

The authors of the news report that the government of Germany’s current Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, fears the rise in food and energy prices, as well as the growth of radical movements on the backdrop of social tensions. Journalists are comparing the upcoming protests to riots organized by those who oppose anti-coronavirus restrictions.

Actions with the slogans “Uprising” and “Civil War” have already started in Berlin. Possible instigators of the new protests are the Querdenker organization (other than holy thinkers (German)), whose followers are suspected of links to far-right groups. Protest activities are also observed in Bavaria and Saxony.

The Saxon Interior Minister, Schuster, said the agency was considering several scenarios. He also urged authorities to form a crisis group to mitigate the consequences of rising energy prices.

“The quality of the federal government’s crisis management will be a determining factor in the extent of existential concerns and thus possible social protests,” the official said.
