Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, Jonathan Wilkinson, said gas transit to Europe via Ukraine could not be an alternative to the Nord Stream pipeline. that quote Bloomberg.
Wilkinson, in his speech to parliament, disagreed with Kiev’s arguments against the return of the Russian turbine for the Nord Stream. According to him, Canada did not find it appropriate to rely on transit through Ukraine due to insufficient capacity.
As Wilkinson noted, Kiev’s proposal was considered together with technical experts from the International Energy Agency and EU and German officials. As a result, it was concluded that gas supplies passing through the territory of Ukraine will be “significantly less” than those that can pass through Nord Stream at full capacity.
The minister also said there are risks associated with military operations and that Russia could reduce the flow through Ukraine.
By contrast, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Canada Yulia Kovaliv said in her speech in parliament that more gas is currently flowing through Ukraine than Nord Stream.
“It is not true that Ukraine cannot change its gas supply to Germany,” he said.
Former Gazprom named The “impossible” supply of a Siemens turbine for Nord Stream. As the company explains, the sanctions regimes of Canada, the EU, the UK and the inconsistency of the situation with Siemens’ current contractual obligations make delivery of the 073 engine to Portovaya CS impossible.
Gazprom also accused Siemens of poor-quality repair of the turbines of the Nord Stream gas pipeline. Siemens, on the other hand, dismissed Gazprom’s criticism, saying that the gas pumping units were maintained as standard.
