Russia’s rice imports from Kazakhstan reached a two-year high in the eight months of 2024, rising by a fifth on an annual basis. This was reported by RIA Novosti Citing the Kazakh statistical service.
In the January-August period of this year, the total amount of rice purchased by Russia from Kazakhstan increased by 22% during the year, reaching 11.7 million dollars. This was the highest figure in the last two years.
Additionally, the Russian Federation purchased wheat and meslin (a mixture of wheat and rye) from Kazakhstan. Wheat supply decreased by 3.5 times during the year. Imports of wheat and wheat-rye flour also decreased by 12.3%.
Russia imported barley from its neighbor in 2023 ($183 thousand in eight months of last year), but purchases have stopped this year.
