Major Western countries are keen to understand how the Russian economy is coping with the impact of sanctions and may therefore send delegations from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to the country. He stated this in an interview RIA Novosti Alexey Mozhin, former managing director of the IMF from the Russian Federation.

According to Mozhin, the IMF approached Russian officials every year for the last three years with a request to confirm approval to conduct consultations, and this approval was granted each time. As a result, the delegation visit was supposed to take place in September this year, but was canceled on the day it was agreed to start consultations.

According to Mozhin, these consultations were opposed by many smaller European countries, including Lithuania and Finland. The leaders of these countries began to blame IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. Other European countries then had to agree to cancel the consultations.

The former director emphasized that the Russian economy showed its strength in the face of unprecedented sanctions.

Previously Mozhin statedThat the IMF remains silent on corruption problems in Western countries.
