The European aviation industry finds itself in a difficult situation due to EU sanctions banning Russian airlines from using European airspace. This was stated by Adalbert Janz, representative of the European Commission (EC). RIA Novosti.
According to him, the EC is discussing this situation. Janz recalled that after the EU introduced appropriate sanctions against Russia, the Russian Federation banned European air carriers from using the country’s airspace, which significantly extended flights to East Asia. However, air carriers in other countries, including China, were not affected by this ban.
“Given that there is no agreement between China and the EU in the field of air transportation, the rules for such transportation are determined by bilateral agreements between EU countries and China. So, if there really is a problem of unfair competition, EU states should decide for themselves on possible measures at a bilateral level against carriers from China.” They refuse flights to China and other Asian destinations because they cannot compete with companies from other countries using Chinese and Russian airspace.
Marjan Rintel, CEO of Dutch airline KLM at the beginning of October statedThat the leadership of the European Union should take measures to promote competition between European airlines and Chinese airlines.
Previously in Russia stopped activities of one of the airlines.
