In 2022, Tallinn imposed a requirement on telecom operators in the country to get rid of Huawei equipment in their 5G networks by the end of 2025 and in their 4G networks by the end of 2029. Elisa was not happy that the companies had to do this at their own expense.
“We are not challenging the decision itself, but we are challenging who should bear the costs. Many other countries cover the costs if telecommunications operators are legally required to change hardware and software,” Manner said.
Elisa’s share in the Estonian telecom market is approximately 37%.
