Russia imposes increased taxes on sweets and batteries from unfriendly countries

Increased customs rates will now be applied to imports of lead batteries and confectionery products from unfriendly countries. The relevant decree was signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. TASS.

Confectionery products, especially those in the form of jelly (including fruit paste), sugar caramel, candy and similar confectionery, are subject to a tax of 35% of the customs value.

Batteries supplied from unfriendly countries are also subject to a 35 percent tax.

For chocolate, wafers and cocoa-containing confectionery, the rate will be €0.73 per kilogram. For chocolate-covered cookies and waffles – €0.35 per kilogram.

The decision will come into effect in a week. The duties will last until December 31, 2024.
