The General Director of the Rosatom state corporation Alexey Likhachev and the Minister of Energy of Turkey Alparslan Bayraktar discussed the project of building a second nuclear power plant (NPP) in the republic. This was reported by Telegram channel state companies.

“During the meeting, the parties discussed the possibility of implementing a project by the state company Rosatom for the construction of the Sinop nuclear power plant, the second nuclear power plant in the Republic of Turkey,” the statement said.

Likhachev and Bayraktar also raised the issue of the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant. It was noted that work is ongoing to commission the station’s first power unit. In parallel, work is underway to build three more power units.

According to Bayraktar, the nuclear power plant will meet 10 percent of Turkey’s electricity needs when it becomes fully operational.

Political decision to give Rosatom the task of building the country’s second nuclear power plant Sinop Türkiye accepted in February of this year.
