“Cases of fraud from fake accounts in the name of the ‘Federal Customs Service of Russia’ have become more frequent,” the Federal Customs Service warns.
The essence of the scheme is that, according to the “chief” of a customs officer, he is asked to help employees of various departments and law enforcement agencies. After that, “Ivan Ivanovich” contacts the employee and convinces him that this help is very important. During the conversation, the fraudster learns the official’s personal information or applies psychological pressure to seize his money.
Previously a professor at a research institute in St. Petersburg sent money scammers who introduced themselves as employees of Rosfinmonitoring and the FSB. Allegedly, the man’s money needed to be secured; to do this, he was persuaded to follow a link in the messenger. The Russian followed the link, after which 269 thousand rubles were withdrawn from his card.
