China reduces LNG purchases from Russia

In the January-May period, liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Russia to China decreased by 5% annually to 2.85 million tons. writes about this TASS With reference to data from the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China.

The total value of exports in the first five months reached approximately 1.7 billion dollars. This is 23% less than in the same period in 2023.

At the same time, China sharply reduced its LNG purchases from Russia last month. In May, the supply in this direction amounted to 47 thousand tons, with an annual decrease of 42%.

Russia is China’s fourth largest LNG supplier. Australia remains the main exporter. In January-May, the country supplied 11 million tons to the Chinese market for $6.3 billion. Then came Qatar (7.7 million tons with $4.5 billion) and Malaysia (3.7 million tons with $1.8 billion).

Overall five-month LNG exports from Russia augmented by 3.8%.
