Aeroflot will form Russia’s largest aircraft maintenance and repair (MRO) provider on the basis of A-Technics, a specialized subsidiary, according to the company’s press service reports.
“For this purpose, the production facilities and personnel resources of Aeroflot’s Maintenance Department (DTO) will be transferred to A-Technics,” the report says.
The transfer of production facilities and the re-registration of the airline’s qualified profile personnel to A-Technics are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022. The company said that in the first phase, the three hangar complexes and maintenance components (TO) at Sheremetyevo Airport will be handed over. Also, volumes of operational maintenance, maintenance line stations and warehouses.
“As a result of the consolidation of Aeroflot’s DTO capacities, A-Technics will become not only the Aeroflot Group’s MRO competence center, but also the largest MRO organization in Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe, both in terms of production. capacity and the number of aircraft types served (9 types in total), ”said Aeroflot.
The company emphasized that A-Technics will operate six hangar complexes. This will allow to host 19 different types of aircraft at the same time.
As A-Technics Managing Director Mikhail Korobovich has pointed out, the business model of conglomerates is now widespread around the world when a major airline transfers its technical division to a separate structure.
“This structure not only specializes in the maintenance of the parent company’s air fleet, but also provides additional income to the holding by serving third-party air carriers. At the same time, outsourcing the “subsidiary” MRO allows the airline to significantly reduce the cost of these services,” he explained.
