The Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce (IRTC) suspended the system that allowed the purchase of Italian goods for rubles. This was reported by RIA News chamber president Ferdinando Pelazzo.
He explained that the decision was taken after the objection of the Italian Financial Security Committee. The Committee expressed concern that the mechanism allowed the circumvention of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
At the same time, Pelazzo emphasized that IRTP does not agree with this opinion, since it deals with non-sanctioned goods.
In February, the chamber launched the system in test mode for member companies for three months. As stated by the head of IRTP, the exchange of goods included only categories whose import into Russia was allowed.
The Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce voluntarily suspended work on this plan after receiving a letter from the Italian Financial Security Committee. Currently, the document is being examined by IRTI lawyers and the content of the 13th sanctions package is being examined. Pelazzo added that the Chamber plans to raise the issue of further operation of the ruble payment mechanism at a member meeting in July.
