One in five Russians plan to take a vacation during the May holidays to extend their vacation or go on a trip. This is the result of a survey conducted by VTB and Otkritie Bank. socialbites.ca has its results.
The same number of respondents are still considering it. Most (62%) do not plan to take additional vacation days.
Half of Russians (46%) plan to relax at home during the May holidays. A third (33%) will go to the countryside or rural areas. 17% will go on a trip to Russia (only 12% last year). Only 3% of Russians (including 6% of residents of Moscow and the Moscow region) plan to travel abroad. Most often they choose Türkiye, Egypt, UAE, Thailand and Belarus. 12% of Russians plan to work during the May holidays. Some Russians will combine holiday options.
Muscovites, to a greater extent than other residents, choose not to stay at home during the May holidays (44% will go out of town and 27% will travel around Russia).
The most preferred cities for traveling around the country are traditionally Moscow and St. Petersburg; 25% of respondents plan to visit each. Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod and Sochi were among the top 5 cities.
Half of those traveling to Russia or abroad (49%) will go on holiday with the whole family. A quarter (24%) will spend holidays alone with a partner, and 17% with friends or an affinity group. The other 10% will travel with their families without children. Only 9% of survey respondents plan to travel alone.
Almost half of the respondents (45%) are not willing to spend more than 10 thousand rubles on vacation during the May holidays. 27% of respondents plan to spend 10-50 thousand rubles. Only 9% will spend more than 50 thousand rubles. At the same time, 19% plan to spend their May holidays without any special expenses.
39 percent of Russians say that spending during the May holidays will be the same as last year. A quarter (26%) believe they will have to spend more than a year ago. 20% will try to save money and not spend money like last time. The other 16% will be ready for comparison after the spend occurs. At the same time, 58% believe they will spend less during the May holidays than at New Year’s.
VTB and Otkritie Bank conducted a survey on April 10-17, 2024, using a representative sample of 1,500 people over the age of 18 in Russian cities with a population of more than 100 thousand people.
